This November, join Otafest as we celebrate the supernatural with a yokai-themed night festival, with cosplay, lantern-lighting, vendors, food, festival games, and more! We invite you to participate, learn about Yokai, their significance in Japanese culture, and to celebrate other fun events throughout the evening.
Remember- part of the event is outside.
Yokai are supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore and are featured prominently through Japanese culture and media. One of the legends featuring Yokai is the Hyakki Yako, a night procession of Yokai through the streets of Japan. The lighting of lanterns in Japanese culture usually symbolizes the guidance of spirits.
Coming soon!
The evening’s events includes tea steeping, a Kokedama (Moss Ball) making demonstration, folk dances/performances, and a Shinseikatsu (New Life) table where you can purchase second hand goods to give them a start to a new life.
